In times when playlists are dominated by the latest trends from social media or streaming services, our selection may seem to some of you an intriguing surprise.
However, we assure you that our choice is not random! Behind every item on the list lies a precise intention that forms the foundation of the entire „New Sounds”. Perhaps explaining our selection key will help you approach the interpretation of the selected pieces.
First of all: after Poznań
The „New Sounds” festival is born in the capital of Wielkopolska – this is where we operate on a daily basis and this is also where the Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań and the Poznań Science and Technology Park support us; and it is also here that we will meet during the grand finale.
We wanted the submission repertoire to proudly reflect this local identity. Our main key to selecting the songs was to link the artist or band to Poznań. It’s a kind of tribute to the creators who drew inspiration from this city and hence often set out to conquer the national stages.
Secondly: cult hits from years ago
The second pillar of our list is time and quality. We have consciously opted for the classics over the latest hits. We have chosen – in our opinion – iconic songs that were triumphant on the charts years ago.
Why? We think they are songs with soul. They have excellent lyrics, superbly constructed melodies, and have firmly established themselves in the canon of Polish entertainment music. These are songs that are often well known to older generations, but which today offer an incredible platform for young vocalists to excel.
Third: time for a new rumor
And here we come to the most important point, namely the very essence of the „New Sounds”. We are handing over the hits of years past to you for one reason: we want you to give them a new sound.
Our Festival is nothing but fresh, student energy colliding with classic, musical material. Do everything you can to make these timeless hits become the title-giving „new craze”!
